THE MONDRIAN
DOWNTOWN | VICTORIA BC | DP approval 2011
Inspired by the modernist paintings of Dutch painter Piet Mondrian, this ten storey residential building is a playful composition of rectangular forms, coloured glass, and metal railing. Site size and zoning regulations defined the massing as a cube which was visually broken down into components using rules of the golden section. The corner location is celebrated by a two storey glazed retail display space and a strong vertical corner element clad in charcoal swiss pearl as matte counterpoint to the sheen of white metal panels on the remaining facade.
