Situated along the sheltered waters of Blue Heron Basin, Capital City Yacht Club is shaped by its close relationship to the marine landscape of the Saanich Peninsula. The project responds to its waterfront setting with an architecture that feels both grounded and open, reinforcing the connection between the clubhouse, marina, and surrounding coastal environment.

The design is conceived around the experience of gathering at the water’s edge, creating a welcoming setting for an active boating community while maintaining a strong sense of place. Thoughtful orientation toward the harbour allows the building to engage with natural light, expansive water views, and the changing conditions of the coastline, establishing a continuous dialogue between interior spaces and the landscape beyond.

Balancing functionality with a strong connection to its surroundings, Capital City Yacht Club reflects the character of coastal life on Vancouver Island—informal, community-oriented, and inherently connected to the water. The result is a gathering place that supports the traditions of the club while creating an enduring architectural presence within Tsehum Harbour.
